The First Talk With Adam Broadcast – Words, Sun Ra, and Other Subjects

“Is This Thing On?!”

My first run as a radio host was fun! During the first few minutes I felt awkward, but Ondré, Open Mind Network’s founder, was also present, and stepped in as “sidekick” to stimulate conversation. He handed me books of phrases and facts, and introduced me to the myriad controls that I will have to monitor. (Gotta’s replace my glasses, the text on those screens are tiny for these eyes!)

My first time at the mic…

Instead of calling the show Thought for Food, hosted by Adam, we’ll simply call it, Talk with Adam. This was Ondré’s recommendation, and I’m going to go with it. I am considering other ways to us Thought for Food; and I’ll leave it at that for now. 🙂

Unexpected Sun Ra Talk

Collected Works Vol. 1 Immeasurable Equation</i>The show was broadcast online in real time. I don’t know if it’s archived just yet. We had one caller (actually, my lady “D”) who asked about the Sun Ra book of poetry (Sun Ra: Collected Works Vol. 1 – Immeasurable Equation) that we published last year. Ondré wasn’t aware of Sun Ra, or his works. I promised to bring a copy in and read a few selections next time. Although while I’m thinking about it, I can include a page from the book here, just to give you a “taste” of this nourishing presentation of thought. Just click the page icon on the right. Collected Words, Vol. 1 Immeasurable Equation</i>

Even before D’s call about the book, Ondré and I talked about an exercise that my father Alton Abraham (1933-1999), gave me as a child. It started out as we tried to figure out the meaning of the word eponymous, as he had handed me a book of Eponymous Terms and Phrases. Instead of looking reading the trivia, I needed to understand the word itself. We had fun with that, and actually never figured it out on the air, as there were a few examples that didn’t appear to be consistent with the meaning based on the information given.

For those who may be interested, dad was Sun Ra’s friend and business partner for over 40 years. He was founder of El Saturn Research in Chicago, handled the band’s club bookings and produced their albums on the Saturn label.

The exercise dad gave me was to look up words in the dictionary and write them down, along with the definition. For my effort he paid me the princely sum of 1¢ per word. I was able to decide for myself how much money I wanted to earn, and how hard I was willing to work in order to get it.

On my best payday I earned $5. To this pre-teenager in the early to mid-1960’s, that was good pay. There’s no way I could know the real benefits of that exercise, for it continues to pay dividends to this very day.

We talked about my book I Am My Body, NOT!, as well as Transdermal Magnesium Therapy, which is also available through Amazon.com, and the implications of magnesium deficiency. In fact, I finally uploaded the cover art to Amazon.com for the book a few days ago, and I’m happy to see that it’s now displayed, along with other information about the book.

The hour passed by rather quickly once the conversation started. While I have much to say, I think it will be through conversation. I’m not looking to proselytize, convert, or insult anyone for disagreeing with me. I’ll ask questions, share my perspective, and invite others to share theirs. In the process we’ll both learn something that will help us make better choices.

Looks like the show will be on Wednesdays, starting mid-to late February, or the beginning of March. I’ll have more “seat time” behind the mic in early February.

Stay tuned…
